Dasher's Magical Gift Soars on TV and Streaming in 2022
On Saturday, December 10th, audiences arrived at the OnCenter Crouse Hinds Theater to enjoy Dasher’s Magical Gift, the one-of-a-kind holiday special presented by CNY Arts. This year’s show marked a special occasion: the first live performance of Dasher since 2019. Theatergoers were thrilled to once again experience the magic and pageantry of live theater.
Dasher is a colorful, narrated one-hour ballet filled with memorable characters and dazzling choreography. For many children in attendance, it is their first opportunity to engage with the performing arts. Produced and performed by an all-local cast and crew, Dasher helps connect communities and inspire the next generation of artists.
The talented young cast train at Dance Centre North and are directed by veteran choreographer Larry Crabtree. Despite a two-year hiatus, many cast members were excited to return for another production. It is estimated that over 1,700 guests attended this year’s Dasher performances, offering children and families a glimpse at the creative achievement of their peers and neighbors.
This year, in partnership with local community service organizations – and with the generous support of Dasher’s legacy sponsors – special ticket scholarships were made available to help expand access for in-need groups and families.
Dasher was also professionally recorded, edited, and televised by WCNY studios for distribution to classrooms and the general public. CNY Arts and WCNY are proud to partner and help Dasher reach an even wider audience. Production costs associated with filming were generously supported by the Onondaga County PRIMED program, the County Legislature, and County Executive Ryan McMahon. Thanks to the collaboration between CNY Arts, WCNY, and Onondaga County, Dasher will bring cheer and warmth to countless households, schools, and individual attendees this holiday season.
