Liamna Pestana

Meet La Casita's musical director, Liamna Pestana from Havana, Cuba. She will be performing and making music with you at La Casita Cultural Center in Syracuse, NY. Programming starts at 4pm.

Liamna is a recent graduate of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University (Class of 2022) and she has done an amazing job teaching music in La Casita's youth programs for years, also facilitating dual-language programs where children read and write in English and Spanish. This year she led a writing workshop that culminated in the publication of La Casita's latest release "Poemitas/Little Poems" written and illustrated by the children. Havana, Cuba & Puerto Rico.


What kind of music do you perform/what instruments do you play?
Vocals and classical guitar

When did you start performing/playing/singing? What got you into music?
1990 in Cuba.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?
Leo Brower, the best guitar composer in the world. I admire the way that he shares his passion for music.


If your fans could remember one thing about you/your band, what would it be?
My voice.

Describe your favorite venue for performing.
Small auditoriums or small venues.


Tell me about your favorite performance in your career.
Sacred Music Festival in Bogota, Colombia 2014.


What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?
To never give up, to practice, practice, practice!
